Ring retroflector system (RRS)
The ring retroflector system consists of 36 prismatic corner reflectors. It is manufactured at NPK SPP JSC for the Glonass-K2 spacecraft. Corner reflectors of the RRS have increased dimensions compared to their predecessors. This makes it possible to increase the equivalent scattering surface and reduce the number of corner reflectors in the system. A distinctive feature of the RRS corner reflectors is their directional pattern, which consists of two spots spaced from each other by the value of the velocity aberration.
Installing the RRS on the new generation of Glonass-K2 satellites will reduce the time of generating “normal points” (averaged results of range measurements) and their root-mean-square error.
