The MOLS is designed to detect and track specified objects of control for the purpose of:
- recording and measuring primary data in the visible and infrared ranges;
- spectrometry of propulsion engine torch in the visible range;
- forming adaptive images;
- displaying video information and coordinates on monitors;
- recording and storing received data;
- forming and issuing protocols and reports.

- a coverage area in azimuth
- from -1800 to 1800
- a coverage area in elevation
- from -20 to to 900
The objects of control can be:
- ballistic missiles of various basing methods
- low-orbit space objects
- space launch vehicles and objects launched by them
